Become an ADH Member!

ADH membership is open to anyone with an interest in the field of dress history. The ADH receives no public funds, is a non–profit educational charity run by a team of volunteers, and is wholly funded by annual memberships and donations. As Registered Charity #1014876 of The Charity Commission for England and Wales, your membership dues contribute to our ongoing support and promotion of the study and professional practice of dress history.

Membership provides a variety of benefits, including access to exclusive ADH members’ events throughout the year, such as curators’ tours and members’ networking events, and discounted tickets to ADH conferences.
ADH memberships are only £10 per year per individual and are valid from 1 January to 31 December, inclusive, regardless of when during the year the membership commences.

The Association of Dress Historians maintains membership data so that we can keep members up to date with ADH activities. We maintain your name, email address, and information on your dress history subject specialisms. We will never disclose this information to third parties without your permission. We will only keep this data while your membership is active. When you receive an email from the ADH regarding members’ events, at the bottom of the email there is always advice on how to opt out of ADH email correspondence, should you wish to do so. Alternately, you can make a deposit (or standing order) into our ADH UK bank account. For bank details please contact the ADH Membership Officer at

If you pay tax in the UK, the ADH is able to reclaim the tax paid on your ADH membership. This costs you nothing beyond your £10 ADH membership. By filling out the Gift Aid declaration form, below, HMRC will add 25% to your donation at no cost to you. This helps support our charity and the work we do.

If you are interested in making a donation to the ADH beyond a £10 membership, please contact the ADH Treasurer at, who can advise you on different ways to donate to our charity, including the creation of a monetary endowment for a specific purpose (such as a student bursary or award) or leaving a legacy to the ADH in your Will.

Thank you for your support of the ADH and scholarship in dress history!
